Has any of you guys leveled Biochem without Diplomacy?
I currently have Slicing at 400 and would love to hold onto it, since its good money. But I would like to drop my other skills and pickup Bioanalysis and Biochem. And obviously I want to work towards the super good reusable stims and heal packs etc of Biochem.
From what I could see on torhead.com most of those highend schematics dont seem to require ingredients from Diplomacy. Is this right, or am I mistaken? Would it be a pain/expensive to do the actual leveling of Biochem without Diplomacy? Im thinking perhaps I'd be better off buying those Diplomacy ingredients I must have, from the GTN.
Comparing that cost of buying the required Diplomacy ingredients from GTN against dropping slicing and leveling Diplomacy I'm thinking (or hoping) that it would be a better and viable choice to hold on to Slicing.
Help me out! :)

If you have time start an alt with Diplomacy.
I sort had the same issue with Armormech. It requires scavenging for all the green patterns but it requires underworld trading for blue and purple patterns. I have slicing and scavenging on Raff so I started an alt with underworld trading to be able to make the blue and purple items.
You don't have to level the alt fast or anything, mine is only level 24 and he is almost maxed out on underworld trading.

if all your after are the reusable stims than just skip diplomacy altogether, its practically useless then. Just buy the couple ingredients that you need. I have bio and the reusables and all I ever did with diplomacy was getting gifts for my companions and a couple ingredients for the reusables :)
In a entirely unrelated matter ;) For crying out loud Bioware, get rid of the reusable bio stuff! It's killing crafting including Biochem. What I've seen is that the fast majority of the level 50's has Biochem purely for these things. Just make em go poof on use.

Yeah, its very unbalanced now. Those items either will need to be removed/changed, or – perhaps preferably - the other crew skills need to get something that can compare in usefulness.
Majors nerfs is never a good idea, makes so many people angry. Loads of people have invested in Biochem for those items, I don't think they can make too big a nerf to them.
Though I can imagine that many people have dropped any of the other production crew skills and when/if Bioware buffs those skills by giving them some really good high level items many may regret dropping them! Me included :)

Just make reusable weaker compared to the ones that go poof. Or give other crafting professions a similar reusable buff. The problem however would be that armormech (and other skills) also needs to be able to make the same item only in a none reusable version. Or it has to give exactly the same buff as Biochem. However in that case it would ruin biochem's money making ability again :P

i dont see another way than to kill the poor though out thing off really. Just poof on use and give the biochem 30% extra from self created stims or something. Bad ideas are better swiftly cut than slowly cured.

I'm with Glorl on this, re-usable idea is just bad. BW nerfed Biochems strength two times already with reasoning "no one craft is suppose to bee mandatory for end-gamers" and to stimulate economy.
Problem would vanish if biochems would be just stronger and not re-usable and unbound (and no biochem skill req.). On one hand biochemists would have nice heals/steams/adrenals to craft, use and sell. On other hand anybody would have option to buy them from bio-crafters. Economy wins and everybody that don't want to take biochem don't need too.
Of course there is option to add stuff for other crafts and BW was mumbling something about adding more crafting recipes for 50's. If I remember right artifice was mentioned and this is why I didn't drop it yet.

Totalbuscuit did an interview with the lead designer Gabe Amatangelo, here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?f…..oLjXIQneuE
And he says that they will make sure that all professions will bring the same buff so that biochem won't be mandatory for endgamers (as it is now). Guess they will make it similar to wow where each profession gives a buff to a specific item slot (eg enchanters can buff their rings, blacksmiths gloves and bracers, enscriptors shoulders, etc).
In wow alchemists can make a reusable flask (stim) but it only gives 40% of the gain that the proper raid version of the flask. I think Bioware will go pretty much the same road.

Quite glad they decided to up other professions rather than kill Biochem totally.
As it is now, there is practically no use whatsoever to any other profession but Biochem at higher level. If they decided to even more kill Biochem (though recent changes are good enough), that'be the death of crafting.
Can't wait to see what they'll bring to other professions.

As an update I can inform you that I have now leveled Bioanalysis and Biochem from zero to 400 in a few days. And it is absolutily very doable without having Diplomacy.
I used this fantastic resource to level "optimally".
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApFZQPDxUk6WdHpfRVd3Z2l6Z2w3VlhDOGltOEMwY0E#gid=5
And I didnt need one piece of Diplomacy stuff! And also the top level items I have made, like the reusable med pack, dont need Diplomacy items either!
